Everywhere in the world, people overplay the role of witches, from times back to the Salem Witch Trials to modern books such as the Night World series. I believe that the Wiccan religion should be just like every other religion: respected and tolerant to the other kinds of religions. I myself am part Wiccan and part Christian, which I like to call "Wistian." I also believe it is safe to have multiple religions. It's hard for me to just stick to one because they're all so interesting!
Wicca is such an interesting religion, by far the most interesting religion I have read or learned about in my life. I have read about Buddhism, Judaism, and the Christian faith (mostly because I was born Christian), but the Wiccan religion is obviously different in many ways. Just reading Gwinevere's book, "SpellCraft for Teens", opened my eyes to this wonderful religion. Although it is such a great one, it is difficult to learn all about as well. There are so many different customs and celebrations, I can't figure out how to fit them all in my schedule!
If you practice Magick, you have to agree with me when I say that this is the most fun part of Wicca. I mean, come on: Spells that can help you win your crush's heart? Awesome! But, no matter how cool this is, it's also dangerous business in some ways. Firstly, because of the two rules of magick: One, do not harm, and two, what you send out comes back to you threefold. Secondly, if you do something wrong, such as putting in one wrong herb, something bad could happen to alter your spell. I only say this because of my first and only spell I created might not be the best spell ever.
Yesterday, before I read that great book, I skipped right to the part where it had ingredients for spells. I wanted desperately for my two-year crush to like me back. Therefore, I bought an empty spell bottle and dried red rose petals to hand-make my first spell. I put in a Tablespoon of the petals, then added a few drops of Happiness oil and Angel oil (because it had some of the ingredients listed for a love spell), and some basil, cinnamon, and thyme. Little did I know that cinnamon is just for lust, not love, and this could end badly.
After I finished the book this morning, I read back at the ingredients I put in my spell. The spell was just on my bedside table, bottle sealed tight. That's when I found out cinnamon is for lust, and hopefully this won't become a zombie-like love! To prevent this from happening, I might just undo the spell and start fresh, but I'm waiting to see what happens first. If I did the spell right and made it a Type C love spell, it might work as planned. I hope it does, I really do!
One thing that really angers me about fiction these days is, as I said before, completely overplaying witches. I am a witch because I created a spell and let a craft name come to me in my dreams. I watched a movie for social studies class a couple weeks ago about the witches in Salem, and I believe they got this completely wrong. I don't think the witches ever possessed anyone. If they did, that would be violating the rules of magick. Also, I read recently a book series called "Night World", and I understand that it is fiction, but honestly: Witches that are born witches and have secret powers? Only they can use spells, and they're not even considered human? Blood sacrifices? Wow.
That's just my take on everyone who hasn't studied their facts on Wicca too well. You can believe something different, but I think people are putting witches and Wicca in a bad light. Maybe some day everyone will understand that witches are not worshiping the devil and that they're human, just with a slightly different religion!
Bio:
Hi, my name is Rose Tigerlilly, and I am 13 years old. I'm from Pennsylvania and I found my Wiccan path actually from my dad and his girlfriend. They introduced me to a part-time owner to a Wiccan/Pagan shop, and that is where I bought "SpellCraft for Teens." I just recently learned and adapted the Wiccan religion. Some things I like to do in my spare time are playing tennis, creating spells, writing, composing and playing music, and also meeting with a few of my close friends at our Moonlight Coven.
I'm going to have to respectfully disagree with you on the cinnamon buisness. I think it's the intention of your spirit that brings out results and that any person can cause psychic changes in their life. Magic to me was always just another way for the subconcious to work its miracles, just like why Christians pray and football players wear lucky underwear!! It just works better for us personally to do magic and it's more fun :) The herbs and crystals are deep rooted symbols in our brains that help us send out our intention more clearly. SO it only matters what cinnamon means to you, not something you read out of the book. BTW I love your name.

I love the way you explained that! I'm a fairly new witch and that has always kind of confused me but you made it very clear and simple :)
